BAE Systems plc provides defense, aerospace, and security solutions in the United Kingdom, the United States, Middle East, Australia, Japan, Europe, and internationally. The company operates through five segments: Electronic Systems, Platforms & Services, Air, Maritime, and Cyber & Intelligence. The Electronic Systems segment offers electronic warfare systems; navigation systems; electro-optical sensors; military and commercial digital engine and flight controls; precision guidance and seeker solutions; generation military communications systems and data links; persistent surveillance capabilities and electric drive propulsion systems, as well as space electronics; spacecraft; ground and tactical systems. The Cyber & Intelligence segment provides cyber security activities for national security, central government, and government enterprises. The Platforms & Services segment manufactures, and upgrades combat vehicles, weapons, and munitions, as well as naval ship repair and the management and operation of two government-owned, contractor-operated ammunition plants. The Air segment develops future combat air systems and falconworks alongside eurofighter and MBDA. The Maritime segment provides maritime and land activities, including submarine, ship build, and support programs. The company was formerly known as British Aerospace plc and changed its name to BAE Systems plc in May 2000. BAE Systems plc was founded in 1970 and is headquartered in Camberley, the United Kingdom.
