The problem
Some 750 million adults (two thirds of them women) remained illiterate in 2016. In developed countries, the cost of post-secondary education, including mid-career education, continues to put millions in debt for decades after they leave their educational institution. More action is needed to enable everyone to achieve a basic education and pursue educational advancement throughout their lives. Corporations play a critical role in making this possible, including through their career development and benefits packages (which may include support for tuition reimbursement), charitable giving to education initiatives, and job opportunities created for low-skill or low-income individuals (which may allow them to pursue additional education)
